Bishop Cletus Bassey Shares Emotional Post on Son’s First Grammy Nomination


Bishop Cletus Bassey, a past Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) is the proud father of Josiah Bassey a Grammy Awards nominee. Bishop Cletus Bassey posted on Facebook to celebrate his son and his achievement today following the announcement that his impressive song “Hold Us Together” featured in the new Disney “Safety” has been nominated for the Grammies. 

Josiah Bassey who relocated to New York City in 2016 is a top songwriter that all the stars want to collaborate with.

The nominated song “Hold us together” is performed by the R&B superstar and multiple Grammy winner, H.E.R.

“Hold us together” was also produced by the most nominated R&B producer at the 2020 Grammy Awards, D’ Mile, who has also worked with Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Usher, and many more.

Josiah Bassey has always been inspired by his culture and the musicians who surrounded him when he was in Nigeria:
“I grew up seeing a lot of talented people, and a lot of them lived in my house because my dad was the pastor of the church, he housed a lot of different musicians.”

Now surrounded by the best in the industry, he is the go-to songwriter for hits.

Josiah Bassey, Songwriter

Josiah Bassey works with the most renowned producers, artists, and performers in the world.

In 2021, Josiah worked with J White on a song for RCA signed R&B artist Tone Stith. J White is best known for producing Cardi B’s chart-topping singles, “Bodak Yellow” (2017) and “I Like It” (2018).
He also worked with Grammy Award Winning Producer Swagg, who produced the song “Devotion” as well as artists such as H.E.R., Alicia Keys, Kehlani, and Ne-Yo to name a few.

Josiah Bassey also toured with Grammy Nominated artist Kierra Sheard in 2016 during her “Bridges Tour” and co-wrote a song with young singer Victoria Dennis.

His collaborations say a lot about his expertise.

Currently, Josiah Bassey is working on some new materials:
“I’m always working on new materials. I write a lot of different styles and genres for myself and other artists. However, I’m doing a lot of fusion with AfroBeats and R&B.”

“It is our desire as parents to see our children do great things beyond what their parents have achieved. My second son Josiah Bassey has been nominated for the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards for a song titled Hold Us Together (Hope Mix) H.E.R. & Tauren Wells; written by Josiah Bassey, Dernst Emile & H.E.R.

He was nominated alongside Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore, CeCe Winans; Dwan Hill, Kyle Lee, Elevation Worship, and Maverick City Music, Naomi Raine, and Chris Brown, etc., in this category.

I am a proud father and as an Akwa-ibomite it’s a great honor that my son is the first son of the soil to be nominated for such a prestigious award. It is my prayer that comes 31st of January he would emerge victorious.
