Obong Akan Udofia, an oil magnate and former PDP governorship candidate, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State governorship primary held in the early hours of this morning by a faction of the party at the new state headquarters in Uyo at Ekpo Obot Street, Off Oron Road.
The faction is backed by a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs and a presidential aspirant of the party, Godswill Akpabio, is led by Stephen Ntukekpo.
The 52-year-old billionaire businessman from Akwa Ibom State’s Nsit Ibom Local Government Area is said to have picked the APC governorship nomination form after defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) less than a month after submitting his PDP governorship nomination form for the 2023 elections.
However, a breakdown of the primary result had not been announced at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, another faction, led by Austin Ekanem and loyal to Senator John Udoedghe, former national secretary of the party had its primaries postponed until further notice due to irreconcilable differences.
