A broken-down police truck has been abandoned for days now almost in the middle of a major road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Nissan pick-up truck, with the inscription ‘Bravo Patrol Team’, has been abandoned for more than five days now at the Osongama Road, near Bright Future Secondary School, Uyo, residents of the areas told Think Akwa Ibom.
When a reporter from Think Akwa Ibom visited the road at about 7 a.m. on Monday, December 6, the truck was still there unattended to, with one of its tires removed.
The road where the truck is abandoned usually has heavy vehicular traffic in the morning and in the evening because it is a connecting road from a foremost estate, Ewet Housing Estate, to other residential estates, like Osongama and Shelter Afrique, in the city.
Several schools and businesses are also located in these estates.
The abandonment of the vehicle underscores the poor funding of the police in Nigeria and the need for intervention from the government, private individuals, and organisations.
