The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) has asked lawmakers to work towards building political parties around well-articulated ideologies rather than using them as mere opportunistic tools for seeking elections.
The Director-General of the institute made this remark at a training workshop on capacity building for legislators, organized by the organ of the National Assembly in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), at Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resorts, in Akwa Ibom State, yesterday.
The representative of the DG, Dr. Shuaibu Danwanka, encouraged the lawmakers to always brainstorm on how to share ideas, build capacity and impact positively on the people.
He said the capacity-building workshop, which was attended by House of Assembly members from Enugu State, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom would enrich their performance, stressing that the essence of the workshop was to see how to add value to the lawmakers and make Nigeria better for its citizens.
He commended the partner, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), and its Resident Representative, Dr. Vladimir Kreck, for sustaining the relationship of intervention with the States’ Houses of Assembly.
